Evelyn Dining Table in White Carrara…
Evelyn Dining Table in White Carrara Marble. This is really more 2.5 stars than 3.
Shipping: to start with, Rove Concepts' shipping is vastly overpriced for what you get. I paid $230 for shipping that would only deliver to the first floor of my building. The main package itself weighed well over 200 pounds, so I can understand why shipping is expensive, but to pay over $200 and not receive help getting multiple bulky and/or extremely heavy packages up to my apartment is a little absurd. Adding to that, Rove's shipping partner (EFW) was extraordinarily unhelpful on the phone and was unable to ever actually tell me an estimated delivery date or time until 30 minutes before the package arrived. The actual delivery driver was good, but the whole process was frustrating, especially after paying so much for shipping.
Packaging: the packaging was fine and nothing was really damaged, although the legs were very difficult to get out of the wooden-slat covered cardboard box. There was no cracking on the marble or significant damage to the wooden parts (apart from a few noticeable scratches and dings).
Assembly: this was the most frustrating part. THIS PACKAGE DID NOT COME WITH INSTRUCTIONS FOR ASSEMBLY. For a nearly $2,000 table that requires assembly, you would expect some direction from Rove, but there was none. I ended up figuring it out after trial and error, but it was frustrating that there were no instructions. Additionally, the holes drilled in the various pieces did not match up and I had to leave multiple important screws out of the assembly because they would not fit. In my opinion, this is unacceptable for a nearly $2,000 table.
Appearance and finishing: overall, the table looks fairly good. I didn't have any issues with yellow lacquering on the marble that some reviews have mentioned; the marble is white and appears similar to the photos on the website. However, the wooden base is SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than the shade depicted on the website. I was expecting a dark walnut color that would complement my dining chairs, but instead the Evelyn base is quite light, appearing like the actual Ash it is made of than the Walnut it is advertised as. It's almost like my particular base didn't get the walnut finishing color that it was supposed to receive. Again, pretty frustrating for a nearly $2,000 table, especially when the table is marketed as having "dark wood" and a "painted walnut finish."
Overall: Would I recommend this table to a friend? Eh, I suppose. But I would first make sure (1) that they are looking for a light wood base, NOT WALNUT COLOR, (2) that they are capable of moving a bulky, extremely heavy package on their own after overpaying for shipping, and (3) that they are capable of assembly with no guidance, while also being comfortable with leaving components out of the table because they don't fit. This table is solid, but it is ultimately pretty overpriced.
I should add that this company is extraordinarily deceptive in how it handles reviews. Before purchasing my table, I read a number of reviews of that same table on TrustPilot, because I didn't trust the nearly 5-star rating on the Rove website. Sure enough, there were a number of 1-3 star reviews for the Evelyn table on TrustPilot that never made it to the Rove website. I'm sure that they do not allow reviews directly on the Rove site so that they can filter which reviews are added from TrustPilot to the Rove product page. If anyone reads this, I would not trust Rove's own ratings or reviews for anything.
